Photographs of travel and
exploration represent a major portion of the images taken each year by amateur and professional photographers alike.
This exhibition explores the notion that being away from our usual environment stimulates us to see in heightened and extraordinary
ways. Photographs were solicited
that present places and people, as seen through visiting photographers' eyes. From over 300 photographs submitted, juror May Mantell chose forty-six photographs by thirty-nine photographers by to be displayed at
PhotoPlace Gallery.
Juror's Statement: As photographers we use our
cameras to document travels and encounters, to record experiences and express visual ideas, and to share them. I particularly
like images that strive to communicate complex experiences and understanding of the ineffable, incongruous visual world.
I included more than one image by a photographer when I found the project particulalry compelling and well made. Thanks
for the opportunity to see so much interesting work.
